Angola’s foreign trade sector recorded a positive balance of 14.9 trillion kwanzas, equivalent to approximately 32.7 billion U.S. dollars, in 2022, according to the latest data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This remarkable achievement showcases the country’s growing economic strength and its ability to expand its global trade networks.

The External Trade Statistics Yearbook for 2022, published on Monday, reveals that Angola’s exports of goods and services reached a value of 50.67 billion dollars, marking a significant 9.91 percent increase compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, the country’s imports also witnessed substantial growth, rising by 14.42 percent to reach approximately 17.93 billion dollars.

China continued to hold its position as the largest destination for Angola’s exports in 2022, reflecting the strong trade ties between the two nations. Following China, other prominent export partners for Angola included India, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. Additionally, China also emerged as the leading importer for Angola, further highlighting the mutually beneficial trade relations between the two countries.

The data provided by INE indicates that oil and minerals remained the backbone of Angola’s exports, accounting for nearly 95 percent of the country’s total export earnings last year. Angola’s vast natural resources continue to play a vital role in driving economic growth and attracting international trade partners.

This positive balance in foreign trade signifies Angola’s ability to diversify its economy and expand its export portfolio beyond the energy sector. The government’s efforts to encourage investment in other sectors, such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services, have yielded positive results, creating new opportunities for trade and economic development.

The achievement in foreign trade underscores Angola’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global market and promoting sustainable economic growth. The country’s continued efforts to foster trade partnerships and explore new markets are expected to yield further positive outcomes in the coming years.

Angola’s impressive performance in foreign trade for 2022 highlights its resilience and potential as a regional economic powerhouse, contributing to the overall development and prosperity of Southern Africa.
