(SATSports) – Matteo Berrettini continued his fine grass court season form on Monday, as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ilya Ivashka to book a place in the quarter finals for the first time. Berrettini has not dropped a set since dropping just one in the first round against Guido Pella.
The Italian, who has one of the biggest serves won 84% of serves played in while also firing 7 aces to become the first Italian man in 23 years to reach the quarter finals at Wimbledon. The seventh seed also broke each in set, six times overall whilelosing his serve only once in what was an almost flawless performance.
Heading into the championships, the Italian won the Queen’s Club grass court tournament, his first title on grass and he looks to win the Queens Club-Wimbledon double, an achievement which only 5 players in McEnroe, Murray, Nadal, Sampras and Becker have. The 25 year old will play Felix Auger Aliassime, who upset fourth seeded Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 to book his place in the final eight for the first time at a major tournament.
