LONDON, (SATSports) – Diego Schwartzman reached his third Roland Garros quarter finals with a 7-6(11-9), 6-4, 7-5 win over Jan-Lennard Struff.
The Argentine came back from 5-1 down, saving seven match points en route to a gutsy first set tie break win over the German.
The 10th seed would go on to win the a tightly contested second set 6-4 by breaking the serve of the big serving German in the 10th game and take a two sets lead.
Despite letting a 4-0 lead go in the fourth set, Diego would go on to break Struff’s serve one more time to secure the third set, the match and his place in the quarter finals. This victory in straight sets means the Argentine is yet to drop a set in this year’s French Open and is set to play the 13 time champion, Rafael Nadal, who he lost to in the semi-finals of last year’s campaign.
Nadal, showed why he is the greatest player ever on clay, beating 18th seeded Jannik Sinner 7-5 6-3 6-0 in a rematch of last year’s quarter finals, where he also beat the teenager in straight sets.
Schwartzman and Nadal have met 11 times on the ATP tour, with the king of clay leading their head to head 10-1, however the Argentine beat him on clay in Rome last year, which makes the matchup interesting.
