(SATSports) – FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura will visit Kenya this week for talks with football leaders, the country’s soccer governing body said on Monday.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) said Samoura will spend two days in Kenya and will also attend the finals of the East and Central African qualifiers to the inaugural Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League in Nairobi on Thursday.
“We welcome the FIFA Secretary General to Kenya. We look forward to hosting her and engaging her about the development of the game in Kenya,” FKF president Nick Mwendwa said in a statement.
Mwenda said Samoura will be accompanied on her trip to Kenya by Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s chief women’s football officer.
Kenya’s Vihiga Queens beat Simba Queens of Tanzania 2-1 to qualify for the decider where they will face the winner of Ethiopia’s Commercial and Uganda’s Lady Doves in Thursday’s final.
“This is a big week for us in the women’s game. Our clubs are taking part in regional and continental competition for the first time. We are pleased to share this moment with the Secretary General,” Doris Petra, FKF vice president said.
This is Samoura’s first visit to Kenya, since her appointment to the position in 2016.
