TEHRAN (The Southern African Times) – Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in the phone talk with his South African counterpart Ms. Naledi Pandor exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as a higher level of cooperation in regional and international fields.

Among the various issues discussed between the two top diplomats there was the sponsoring of the 10th Bilateral Political Committee at deputy foreign ministers’ level in Tehran, the 15th Session of Bilateral Commission at foreign ministers’ level, the upcoming state visit of President Raisi to South Africa and other issues of mutual interest.

Ms. Pandor voiced her satisfaction for meeting the Iranian foreign minister on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, emphasizing the importance of further expansion of bilateral relations.

She said that a good sign for the great importance South Africa attaches to relations with Iran is the upcoming visit of President Raisi to Pretoria and sponsoring of the 15th Session of Iran-South Africa Joint Commission by Pretoria government, both during the first six months of the year 2022.

Amirabdollahian welcomed his South African counterpart’s proposals, emphasizing that the side committees for investments, energy, health, and international cooperation need to be on the agenda and the issues of mutual interest need to be discussed in order to further expand bilateral trade and commerce.
