Kenya reports 972 new COVID-19 infections, total cases surpass 70,000

(The Southern African Times) – Kenya’s health ministry on Sunday confirmed 972 new cases of COVID-19 from 6,648 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed positive infections to 70,245.

So far Kenya has tested 789,952 samples since March.

The health ministry said the new cases included 928 Kenyans and 44 foreigners.

The Ministry of Health also announced 352 patients recovered from the virus with 253 on the home-based care program while 99 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 45,766.

The ministry also stated that there are 59 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 30 on supplemental oxygen while 17 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A total of 1,229 are admitted in various health facilities while 5,572 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

The death toll from the virus has also risen to 1,269 after 20 more patients succumbed to the virus.
