Kenya, Rwanda draw in World Cup qualifier in Kigali

(SATSports) – Kenya maintained its unbeaten start to the group stage of the African World Cup qualifiers following a 1-1 draw away at Rwanda at the Nyamirambo Stadium in Kigali on Sunday.

Michael Olunga gave the visiting Harambee Stars the lead in just the ninth minute but Rwanda leveled through Abdul Rwatubyaye 11 minutes later.

With neither side able to create more clear cut chances, the game ended in a draw which leaves Kenya second on two points from two games and Rwanda bottom with just one point after a similar number of games.

Mali remains top of Group E ahead of its game against another East African side, Uganda, on Monday.

The other games on Sunday see Togo play Namibia in Group H and Gabon play Egypt in Group F.

The group stage, the second phase of qualifying for the continent, will see the ten group winners advance to a third and final qualifying round.

The ten group winners will then play a two-legged playoff tie with the five winners qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
