Marcus Rashford responds to racists: “I will never apologise for who I am and where I come from”

(SATSports) – Marcus Rashford of England has said that he will never apologize for who he is and where he comes from.

In a two paged emotional letter, the Manchester United forward said he was sorry for not scoring a penalty kick during Sunday’s final Euro 2020 match between Italy and England. His miss and two other missed penalty kicks by Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka led to England’s defeat.

Rashford, Sancho and Saka were attacked by racist trolls on social media after missing the penalty kicks.

“I’ve had a difficult season…I’ve always backed myself for a penalty but something didn’t feel quite right. During the long run up, I was saving myself a bit of time and unfortunately, the result was not what I wanted, “Rashford said.

“I felt as though I had let my teammates down. I felt as if I’d let everyone down. A penalty was all I’d been asked to contribute to the team. I can score penalties in my sleep so why not that one?”, he asked.

He went on to say that while he can take critique of his performance all day long he’ll never apologize for being who he is.

“I am Marcus Rashford, 23 year old, black man from Withington and Wythenshawe, South Manchester. If i have nothing else, i have that.”

On Monday, the English Football Association (FA) led premier league clubs and authorities in condemning racist abuse suffered by the black players.
