Ons Jabeur Makes Arabian History with Fourth Round Wimbledon

(SATSports) – Ons Jabeur, became the first Arabian woman to make the Wimbledon quarter finals, with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 fourth round victory over Iga Swiatek.

The 21st seeded player, was serving for the first set at 5-4, but found herself broken and losing three games in a row to hand the 2020 French Open champion one foot in the quarters with a 7-5 set win. She had to gather herself, keeping herself calm to produce what many would term as a bully-ish two sets of tennis which was kick-started with a break of serve in first game of the second set.

“It was a great match, and I had to stay calm rather than get angry when I failed to close out the first set as getting angry would not have helped my cause,” said the 26 year old Tunisian, who just became the first Tunisian woman to get past the fourth round in London.

Her next opponent is  second seeded Aryana Sabalenka, who fought through a resilient Elena Rybakina 6-3 4-6 and 6-3 to book a place in her first grand slam quarter final. The pair have met twice on the tour, with each of them bagging a win and they will battle once again for their first semi-final berth at a grand slam tournament.
