HARARE, (The Southern African Times) – Zimbabwe is developing a draft COVID-19 vaccination framework for the roll out of the vaccine, Acting Information Hon Minister Jenfan Muswere said Wednesday.

Zimbabwe has announced that it could receive its first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine next month, with the government now finalizing its national deployment plan and the training of health care workers.

The country will procure the vaccine through COVAX, a global initiative led by the World Health Organization.

Frontline health care workers and the elderly will first be inoculated.

Muswere urged the public to observe lockdown regulations to curb the spread of the virus.

Zimbabwe has entered into another lockdown, starting from Jan. 5 to 31, amid a second wave of the pandemic.

As of Wednesday, the country had recorded 24,256 cases with 13,658 recoveries and 589 deaths.
