Zimcelebs was founded in February 2017 as Zimcelebs TV by Lewis John. John was running a nightclub in South Africa then and he engaged Tafadzwa Gondo who was a freelance journalist to become a partner, the duo revealed that the Zimcelebs idea was inspired by The Shade Room.
Over the years, the platform has become one of Zimbabwe’s portals for celebrity breaking news and the social media based blog has accumulated a significant following. In March 2021, Zimcelebs was listed as the 6th most influential social media platform in Zimbabwe with the highest engagement percentage and has about 7 million views on YouTube.
With such success the start up has decided to release a series of remixes. REMIXES are a way to give a song a new taste and in most cases they have being successful much to the tastebuds of revellers.
With Jamaica and US famed for producing great remixes, Zimbabwe has not beem spared by the trend.
In Zimbabwe, of late revellers have been enchanted by remixes released with the Fire Emoji remix taking the top spot on the listener’s choice list.
Zimcelebs founder Lewis John and Co-founder Tafadzwa Rusike Gondo being the executives producers of the “Fire Emoji” remix have been inspired by the impact of remixes hence the decision to drop a remix album.
“We were stunned by the massive impact that remix had to the nation. Some say it was more fiery than the original Fire Emoji and others claim both songs were at par. We have also seen other musicians from other towns doing their follow-up verses to the Remix and this response is amazing,” said John.
“With this response, as Zimcelebs we have decided to do a remix album. Zimbabwe has many hit songs and others have been shelved generations ago. So remixing these songs returns those memories while at the same time theAma2000 will get to know the flow of the golden oldies.”
He added, “Speaking of the Ama2000 they will also be involved in these remixes giving the music a new feel to capture their agemates.”
Tafgeezy said the remix album will be named after Z Remixes.
“The album name will be titled Z Remixes ,” he said. “Several artists such as Maskiri, Tererai, Jamal and Betty Makaya, Trevor Dongo, Sanii Makhalima, Paul Mpofu of Murambinda, the Late Tendai Muparutsa, Simon Chimbetu, Andy Brown will have their songs remixed.”
Zimcelebs is Zimbabwe’s biggest celebrity news and gossip Facebook and Instagram platform. The platform also distributes music and hosts a series of podcast shows.
